GrowBlock / GrowBase: Fuel-Powered Starter Bases That Build and Unbuild

GrowBlock is an original Bad Neighbors system that turns special campfire-style blocks into fuel-powered starter bases built from BlockBuilder templates.

What It Adds

  • Three direct trigger blocks: bn_growBlockCampfire, bn_growBlockBurningBarrel, and bn_growBlockBBQ.
  • Configurable template slots for starter_base_1, starter_base_2, and starter_base_3, with optional Credit_Tag text for creator or design credit.
  • Native campfire-style workstation behavior so players use familiar fuel slots and the on/off fire state.
  • A Home Sweet Home buff/CVar that shows the active safe-time countdown while fuel is running.
  • One GrowBase per player, cleanup when a second one is placed, and a 20-block spacing rule from other players’ tracked GrowBases.
  • Block-by-block build and top-down unbuild behavior, including original-block restore/backfill when the deployment is removed.

How It Plays

A player places a GrowBase block in a loaded open area, opens it with E, adds fuel, and turns the fire on. Once enough running fuel time is available, the structure starts building. Players can add fuel to extend the countdown, turn the fire back on before the grace timer reaches zero, or let the base unbuild and reset to pending for another refuel cycle.

Rules and Safeguards

  • GrowBases will not build into POIs or existing non-terrain building blocks.
  • Storage in temporary starter-base designs should be treated carefully because cleanup can remove unsafe temporary storage.
  • Picking up, destroying, or removing the trigger block starts cleanup rather than leaving a spawned structure behind.
  • Player-owned deployments are persisted under each player’s data, so the system knows who owns what after reloads.

Why It Matters

The idea is to make emergency shelter and starter housing feel earned. A GrowBase is not just a prefab dropped into the world; it is tied to a block, fuel, time, upkeep, cleanup, and server-side rules.
