They are not just another zombie variant. They are meant to feel like people who survived long enough to become dangerous: armed, territorial, opportunistic, and willing to make the roads feel less safe.

Adds roaming bandit encounters to the server world.

Uses configurable profiles so different groups can feel and behave differently.

Keeps the mod server-side, so players can join without installing a matching local modlet.

Server-Side Mod Only

This is a server-side mod. The server handles the bandit system, encounter logic, and roaming behavior. Players do not need to install anything on their own machine just to meet the bandits on Bad Neighbors.

That matters for a public server because it keeps the barrier to entry low. You can join, play, and run into the consequences without managing a separate client-side mod list.

Bandit Profiles

The bandit system is built around profiles instead of one flat enemy type. A profile can shape how a group behaves, how tough it feels, what kind of equipment it carries, how large the encounter can be, and where it makes sense for that group to appear.

Light roamers create quick pressure without turning every trip into a full fight.

Scavenger-style groups make wilderness runs, roads, and looting routes feel more contested.

Harder crews can be tuned as higher-risk encounters with better gear, stronger numbers, or more aggressive behavior.

Special-purpose profiles give us room to build event, quest, or story-driven encounters without making every bandit spawn feel the same.

The point is variety. Bandits should create stories: the quiet road that suddenly is not quiet, the supply run that turns into a standoff, the bad decision to fire first, and the relief of getting back to base with everyone still standing.

How They Roam

Bandits are designed to move through the world as roaming pressure instead of sitting in one predictable place forever. They can be tuned around travel routes, wilderness movement, POI-adjacent danger, and server pacing, which lets us make the world feel occupied without flooding it.

That roaming behavior is meant to sit between random danger and authored encounter. The server can create the feeling that other survivors are out there doing their own thing, crossing paths with players, and sometimes becoming the problem of the day.

The Bandit Truce

The bandit truce is the little bit of uneasy world logic that makes the system more interesting than shoot-on-sight chaos. It gives us room for moments where bandits are not automatically the same kind of threat every time. Sometimes the smart move is to keep distance, read the situation, and decide whether the fight is worth starting.

It is not friendship. It is survival politics. The truce gives the server a way to support stories about tension, reputation, territory, and consequences without forcing every encounter into the same ending.

Why It Matters

Bad Neighbors has always been about making the server feel more alive. Bandits add another layer to that: not just zombies, not just loot, not just base building, but other people in the ruins with their own weapons, routes, priorities, and problems.

Like the rest of the Bad Neighbors original work, this is being built to make normal play generate better stories. A good bandit encounter should make the world feel larger than the player, and a little less willing to be ignored.

<div
